Artist Statement
I’m a writer, filmmaker, musician - drummer, entrepreneur, adventurer. I like to include all of who I am in my process of making films, because they feed each other and they feed me. Traveling! Movies! Music! Seeing an intriguing person walk down a crackly street I’ve never seen before aligns with my passion for rhythm, fashion and adventure. It brings out the poet in me. This, I’ve catalogued in “The Ace book.” Being back home and witnessing the stories and creativity of my people inspired me to create “Black Genius: Memphis.” Collaborating with my artist sisters and seeing them become the gifted superpower women that they are inspired, “Sight.” Seeing someone holding hands will inspire…who knows yet!
Observing and listening in to my feelings, thoughts and questions is key for me, no matter if it’s an idea that I’ve created or something that I’m helping someone else to build. If you’re interested in my work in any format, you’re interested in seeing, being a part of, or co-creating something different in this world that grounds you. It probably means you’re an explorer that’s looking for home, for meaning like me.
